Naruto convinces Jiraiya, his new sensei, to teach him a summoning technique, Summon no Jutsu. However, the results aren't exactly what Naruto expected. It is revealed that the Hidden Village of Sound and the Hidden Village of Sand are planning a joint attack to the village of Konoha.

Hokage and all the higher class ninjas have gathered to discuss the possible upcoming war. Meanwhile, Sakura is visiting his friends in the hospital. To her disappointment, Ino had had the same idea. When they are about to go and see how Sasuke is doing, a nurse informs them that both Sasuke and Rock Lee have vanished from the hospital.

Despite how hard Naruto is trying, he cannot summon a proper frog. It becomes clear that only in a life or death situation can Naruto harness all of his powers to summon the frog boss.

In order to prove that he is worthy of summoning the frog boss, Gamabunta, Naruto uses all of his strength to stay on back of the huge frog. More light is shed on Sand and Sound villages plans to attack Konoha village.

After sustaining injuries while fighting to stay on Gamabunta’s back, Naruto was sent to the hospital. Gaara is determined to finish the job he started at the Chuunin exam. He is going to kill Lee, who is still being treated at the hospital. Parts of Gaara’s tough childhood are revealed.

It’s the day before the final part of Chuunin selection exam. Everyone’s making their final preparations. Naruto, however, is late as usual. If he doesn’t hurry, he will be disqualified! Will he make it to the arena in time?

The first battle of the exam between Naruto and Neji begins. Confident as always, Neji is certain he will win. But Naruto won’t let Neji’s taunts confuse him.

Neji’s 360A defence seems to be impossible to beat. But Naruto isn’t going to give up that easily. Neji tells Naruto about his family’s misfortune.

Naruto is determined to prove Neji that faith doesn’t control people’s lives. To beat him, Naruto must wake the demon sealed inside him and harness its powers.

The battle is over. Naruto is in jubilant mood. He is being recognized for the first time in his life. Neji is consoled by his uncle, who explains him the real events that led to his fathers dead. The battle between Sasuke and Gaara is supposed to start, but Sasuke hasn’t arrived to the arena yet.

Since Sasuke hasn’t arrived to the exam site yet, the match between Shikamaru and Temari will begin instead. Shikamaru isn’t all too happy about this turn of events.

After a rather surprising ending in the battle between Shikamaru and Temari, it’s finally time for the battle between Sasuke and Gaara to begin. Fortunately, Sasuke arrives to the arena just in time. The battle that everyone’s been waiting for can begin.

With Kakashi’s guidance, Sasuke has become a lot faster and more powerful. His attack break through Gaara’s sand defence rather easily. But suddenly Gaara forms a huge dome of sand around him and begins to chant. What is he up to?

Sasuke uses his new technique against Gaara’s dome of sand. It breaks through, injuring Gaara badly. But then, Sand’s and Sound’s troops attack Konoha Village, ending the battle before it got finished.

The attack on Konoha has started. Orochimaru’s target is the 3rd Hokage. Naruto is sent to go after Sasuke, who himself is chasing Gaara.

While Hokage is talking with Orochimaru, a group with Naruto, Sakura, Shino and Shikamaru try to catch up to Sasuke. Iruka, with the help of other teachers, is leading the evacuation procedures.

3rd Hokage's and Orochimaru's battle continues. We get to learn about Orochimaru's time as a ninja in the Konoha village. Meanwhile, the group going after Sasuke notices that they're being followed. Shikamaru leaves behind in hopes of slowing down their pursuers.

Orochimaru uses forbidden technique to summon the 1st and the 2nd Hokage to his aid. 3rd Hokage is having hard time surviving the attacks of these both, extremely powerful Hokage’s. Thankfully, he’s still got a trump card up his sleeve.

Orochimaru reveals the secret behind his ever-changing appearances. After realizing what terrible, forbidden technique Orochimaru has used, the 3rd Hokage decides that, no matter what the cost, Orochimaru must be stopped.

By using a forbidden technique Demon Soul Seal, 3rd Hokage manages to stop the 1st and the 2nd Hokage. The Death God also manages to grab Orochimaru, but he’s not going to give up that easily. Meanwhile, Sasuke catches up with Kankurou. Temari, carrying Gaara, decides to keep on running while Kankurou tries to stop Sasuke.

Shino arrives to help Sasuke. While Shino is keeping Kankurou busy, Sasuke starts to chase Gaara and Temari again. When he finally catches up to them, he confronts Gaara. Seeing Sasuke awakens Gaara's inner demon. What has Sasuke gotten himself into?

The demon inside Gaara is taking over. Sasuke uses his newly learned technique, Chidori, on Gaara. He can only use it two times or he might die. Can he defeat Gaara with one blow? Hokage is having tough time trying to feed Orochimaru to the Death God.

Naruto arrived just in time to save Sasuke and Sakura from Gaara's wrath. Sasuke is out of the battle after using his Chidori one time too many. Hokage's struggle to seal Orochimaru continues.

Flashbacks show us what has made Gaara the tormented boy that he is now. Gaara's transformation to demon Shukaku is nearly complete. It seems Naruto can't harm Gaara at all with his attacks.
